Reality Check

Over the weekend Josh's brother got married. It was a really wonderful time. We bonded with family, Josh made a short, sweet, and funny speech, and we spent time together, there was no studying this weekend! There was, however, one annoying little detail that everyone wanted to keep bringing up...Josh and I still aren't married. SIGH. Well no, we're not, and we won't be any time too soon, hopefully in the next 5 years or so (crosses fingers). This detail doesn't bother me as much as everyone else. Josh and I will be together forever, that's for sure, we've talked about it and everything. But how on earth can we get married when we have NO money and no way to make money anytime soon. I sacrificed my job to follow him to basic sciences, and while I will never regret that, that means I'm unemployed and am trying really hard to shove my resume down EVERYONE'S throat to no avail. I even went to an interview and tasted what it would be like to have an awesome job, but it fell through, I cried and the wound is still fresh, but there has got to be SOMETHING out there! Optimism, optimism, optimism. My brand new idea is to get into wedding planning, ironic isn't it? Planning all sorts of weddings that aren't mine, it's worth a chuckle. But seriously, I want to own my own business, work from home if need be, and make enough money to support my family. And it's an awesomely fun line of work!!

This leads me to my first fun discovery...http://benbrownmd.wordpress.com/ ... The Deceptive Income of Physicians. SUPER interesting. It's a lot of information med students know, but hopefully it will reach some non-medical professionals and more people can get an understanding that doctor's are people too and work really really hard to make sure that you don't die. Apparently, that isn't worth much to a lot of people, but we all need to put some things into perspective now don't we?

In my attempt to stay busy in 2012 and not FREAK about not finding a job right away, I have been knitting a scarf a week and reading a book a week.

Week 1:

Week 2:

Week 3:

These are my knit creations and for weeks 3 and 4 I decided to crochet a blanket, so I'm about half done with that right now and should finish it up for week 4!! Side note: Josh said I should just make blankets so we can save on heating...ohhhhh dear.

Stay optimistic!

Resolutions

Happy New Year! I rarely make resolutions but this year I wanted to keep my mind sharp and keep myself productive, so I have decided to read a book each week this year and knit a scarf each week this year. SOUNDS CRAZY RIGHT!?!? It's really only a 12 hour commitment every week, and I'm pretty sure I'll at least read that many books, even if I don't make that many scarves. Let's not already be defeated though! I WILL make 52 scarves and they will be lovely! Besides, it's a leap year so I have a whole extra day to knit and read, HA!

This first book I've chosen is “The Paris Wife,” by Paula McLain. It is quite good so far and I would recommend it to anyone. It's in the perspective of Ernest Hemingway's first wife, which initially sounded a bit dry to me, but it's really well written and totally enjoyable.

I went into NYC yesterday for a job interview and JUST realized that I wrote 2011 on every single document I signed – sigh – not a good omen. More about the job later, I am not as optimistic about it as I once was, it's really competitive and, while I answered their questions nicely, I think it might have sounded a little generic. We will see.
